When I was about 3 I asked Mum and dad if I could have a baby brother. They told me to ask Jesus for one in my prayers (what I didn't know was that they had been told that Mum should never have been able to have me ... further kids were impossible) ... so I did, and at age 4 1/5 along came -
In lots of ways, Nick and I are opposites. When we were younger that serious nature of his was great, as he was a friend when we were young.
Sadly over the years that has moved away a bit, although I know if I need him, he would be there for me.
He is very serious, and sees life in black and white. If he states something, don't bother arguing, he just looks at you and walks off. He doesn't have much tolerance for things.
However, at 18 he had meningitis (and had to give up a medical degree) - he then went on and did a Maths degree ... and took the finals in hospital with Glandular Fever. He has since done a correspondance course to get a DD ... so he is one brainy boy.
His pain threshold is like no-ones I have ever met - I watched him walk round London Zoo on a broken ankle, and during a Church activity watched him break 2 ribs in a fall - but he finished the game! Sadly he is a smoker, but is very, very strictly T-T ... wrong way round IMHO!!
His faith means everything to him - at school he helped organise the Christian Union, in his 20's he organised his own Beach Mission Group, that ran for 15 years (and yes I got involved for 10 years) ... he plays in the music group at his Baptist Church, when he's not preaching.
He is self-taught on piano, piano accordian and basic guitar. When he first qualified he taught in London, and actaully had a try-out for the London Welsh Rugby Club ... as he was then great at rugby, and born in St Asaph ... he now just referees at the school.
He is now Head of Maths and Sociology of a Boarding School ... and is married to Brenda, and they have 4 boys. Andrew is 15 and was baptised by Nick in February ... that's when this picture of him was taken; Dan is almost 13, and I think he will turn out to be the rebel ... having been the "sweet one" when he was younger; Tom is almost 11 and the super brainy one ... who is great at sport as well ... but still a really nice kid; and then Joe, who at almost 8 is the spoilt baby ... but last time I saw him, school was sorting some of that out
I do wish I was closer to him, but he is not demonstative or open (even to Brenda), although he does keep to our family tradition of a hug and a kiss to each of us when we meet, and when we say goodnye ... and he writes to me most weeks, and every Sunday evening his last task is to write to Mum ... so although I'm not as close to him as I wish (but I am spoilt in my relationship with Tim), we still al keep in touch, and he genuinely has a very special place in my life, and in my heart.
Trouble is that I obviously prayed too much, as 6 days after my 6th birthday along came -
Tim and I are alike ... think alike, act alike ... and are the best of friends.
He was always the one who ended up in Casualty when we were kids, as like me he is accident prone. We both had terrible tempers, and I think Mum and Dad were sure we were going to murder each other - but as soon as we exploded it was all forgotten, never holding grudges at all.
When we are together and in a silly mood, Claire has to cope with that - she is a good friend to us both, as well as being the love of Tim's life.
Tim never really worked hard at school, and suffered with a horrific nervous condition that would make him burn a temperature of 105@ when stressed ... so after a year at Uni he left, and did his legal training over a day release course - 6 years later he was a qualified Legal Executive, and now has a good reputation in the city he lives in as being the person to ask if you need help ... within his own firm, but also from other firms, the Police, etc.
He is also involved in his Church, and occasionally preaches at other local Chapels.
They don't have kids - their choice. He is passionate on the history of World War 1, which is something I have always been fascinated by, but is mad enough to like football ... his music tastes are unusual, as well ... although if you read a long fan-fic with Spike in it, then see some of the bands listed, and they are in Tim's lists! We both watch the same Antiques programme at a lunchtime - and often text each other about that!
The picture was taken this summer when they stayed with me for a week - and we went to Hartland for the afternoon.
He may be my baby brother, but he is also a super friend, and I am very proud of him. He has a very special place in my heart, and life.
So, hoped you liked seeing and reading about 2 of the special men in my life.
