Day 09 – Your beliefs, in great detail
Although I am not a member of the Anglican (Church of England), I have been to many services and one thing that is recited at Morning Prayer is, for me, a basic truth -
The Apostles' Creed - From the 1662 Book of Common Prayer
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen
Now, below the cut, I shall ramble a bit more. I'm quite happy for people to ask me why, but I hope that you, in turn, accept that these are my beliefs .... my life.
As I said I don't go to an Anglican Church, I'm a member of The plymouth Brethren ... but in all honesty, I have been to services in most Protestant denominations.
I believe in God, that He is creator of Universe, and I believe that He is eternal.
I believe in The Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This is one of the hardest concepts to explain - The Trinity are 3 separate people, with separate roles, yet they are all God, who is one person. Hard to explain, but I do believe it!
Jesus Christ is God's son, born to the Virgin Mary, and lived a normal life until 30 (ish) and then showed His life as seen in the 4 gospels, plus some secular writings at the time. He was crucified, and rose from the dead. He died so that those who believe and ask for forgiveness can be part of eternity. They are 101% forgiven of anything and everything ... their sins are forgotten.
The Holy Spirit then lives within the person - so I can honestly say I am never alone.
Yes, I will be going to Heaven when I die, or if the world finishes first.
I believe 100% in The Bible - I try to obey the rules ... not because I don't want to be punished, but because I want to do my best for God.
As I said, I'm a member of the brethren - we have very basic servuces, no crosses, icons etc ... but if that helps people focus their faith, then I don't have a problem with them - in fact I love going round Churches. My only worry is if people focus on the picture of a Saint, rather than focussing their faith on God Himself.
Yes, I can talk forever - but the few of you who will read this will either agree with me, or know me well enough to have guessed half these points.
Anyway - any questions, any thoughts - just ask - it doesn't worry me.
I have friends of all faiths, and no faith ... a friend is a friend - although I do wish all the people I love could commit their lives to God, as I would love to spend eternity with them n Heaven.
