I am not a Pacifist, as I believe that sometimes you just have to say "NO", however War is basically pointless - so many lives lost in such a small area of the world.  This was so shown byt the WWI, more than most others - a generation lost.  During my first year at college a film was made, that is the only film I have ever seen at the cinema twice - Gallipoli , starring an Austarlian Mel Gibson (!) ... and was about two Australian sprinters face the brutal realities of war when they are sent to fight in the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey during World War I.

This clip is of the last section of the film, and shows war, and the pointlessness of command without real knowledge ... and, the music (which is 16th century) is also stunning ... starting at 2.20

And, is the reasons there are Sunrise services on April 25th in Australia and New Zealand.

And, just in case you think I am being too Nationalistic, then how about a book that was made into a film, that was written by a German about a class that went to war ... and never returned.  All Quiet On The Western Front (1930) and was remade in 1979 ... my Grandfather was in a  similar situation, but he (and one other) came home.&

As a point of interest, when I was 9 we had a relief teacher, who decided that rather than break into our studies, he would read us a book ... this was the one he chose ... and it is what gave me my interest in the history of the War.
