366 MEME - Day 38 - Another Local View.

James - silhouette

As I have already posted, my Monday morning was weird - in fact it got even weirder as I had a phone call from a friend's partner to say her mother had died suddenly over the weekend.

Anyway, one of my many things I have actually got done this morning is paid some orchestra bills at the Town-Council offices ... so thought you would like to see the building. It was originally the home built by Sir Goldsworthy Gurney (a Victorian inventor .... his lights were in The Houses of Parliament).

Photobucket

The obelisk in the foreground is our Millenial "thingy" - and is made of Bude colours - sea, sand, blue sky and is in the shape of the lights invented by Sir Golgsworthy Gurney to be used in the Cornish Tin Mines.

Mmmm - it has a light on the top ... but even on the darkest night, I have yet to even see a glow! (Council money well spent!)

I'm always fascinated by glimpses into the differences in our cultures. Why did you go to pay bills at the Council office? Is that a post office?

Oh this was an orchestra bill - sorry, so it was money to the town council ... They refuse to deal with banks etc, the money has to be paid in person (they don't evn like you to posta check!)

We can pay normal bills at the post office, although I tend to pay all mine at my bank.

Interesting monument. Pretty though. At least it is small, if it were huge that would be weird. hehe. :)

Thanks - hadn't thought about that ... but it is very true. I love the colours.

Ooh - a Millenium obelisk is unusual - around here everyone seemed to go in for clocks, and UK wide there seems to be a surfeit of bridges, but I've never seen an obelisk before!

Yes - must admit that is one of the more "unusual" thingies I have seen!!!!

We had a vote as to whether we wanted ours - when they were 1/2 way through building it - so I personally think whatever happened the answer we would be told would be a "yes"!!
