Dad

Special Memories .... Thank You "Songs Of Praise"

I usually watch Songs of Praise while having Sunday lunch - and di today. The first hymn was one I hadn't heard in ages, but as it started it brought back a very special memory.

Back when I was about 8 - 9, I went with Dad (as I always did) to the Chapel he was preaching at. Mum was at home with my younger brothers. Well all I remember was that it was a winter evening, but I don't know which town we went to. Just know it was a bit of a drive and we actually got there a bit early. So we were in the car talking before going in and I asked Dad what hymns he had picked and this was his #1. I remember saying that I loved it, but I then remember Dad asking me if I knew what all the words meant. And there were certainly some I didn't, so Dad sat and explained to me what all the long, more unusual, words meant.

So while that hymn was on TV I was back sitting in the dark in a car with Dad.

Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

1
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
2
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
3
To all life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
4
Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render, O help us to see:
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.
