Day 15- A song people wouldn’t expect you to like

I wonder how many people will be suprised?

Yes, I was at senior school in the 70s so had  a lot of "heavy" music around me all the time - I still love Queen, The Who, Led Zepplin ... but have chosen "Bat outa Hell" by Meatloaf.  The reason for this song is that, yes, I do like it ... but also the phrase caused my Mum tp choke some years ago.  She was at a posh, formal funeral (we in the Brethren can be stuffy) and she was speaking to someone who said that they thought they knew me - as they had seen me in a red car ... driving like a Bat out of Hell.  Not the phrase we use ... and certainly not what she was expecting ... the tea went wrong way (better that then over the people nearby!)

What James song could I possibly chose - you know I like his music, so what one would suprise you.  Sorry - I leave the answer blank ... if you have any ideas, let me know!

I made loads of friends ... for the firts time life was great.  I have kept in touch with 3 of them ... but not as well as I should do.  I am going to try and phone at least 2 of them this week.

Closer to God

Bible Thoughts - Jonah

Yesterday in Church we had a talk by another Missionary, and he was talking about choices and paths ... which was really interesting, seeing as I am at this cross-roads.  he spoke of Faith and belief that God does know what we nned - and it was lovely to have things re-confirmed.

My faith is strong, but the crisis I am putting myself through can lead me to question whether I am correct in believing I am on the right path.  so it was good to hear.

Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (NIV)

He then went on to talk about Jonah.

Two of his points were -

i)  God gave him a second chance ... he ran away the first time, but God gave him another chance.

ii)  When the storm was bad, he was thrown in the sea.  He must have presumed he would drown as the ship headed to safety.  Then he saw the big fish ... so he then must have thought hewould be eaten.

However ... God used the fish to care for him, give him the quiet he needed to refocus his thoughts ... and then to take him to safety.

How often to we overlook things that we don't think will help - yet God can use anyone, anything to help us achieve the best.
