DJ - plaited!

Taking After His Namesake!!

DJ wandered in this morning, and was a good boy while I was grooming him.  Although it was sunny I decided not to plait him today, as the weather is cooling down.

So, I tacked him up, put on his ears and waited for Toni and Junior to be ready.

One thing I don't think I have ever said about him is that 4 times out of 5 he either trips over the bar of his stable door, or trips down the step out of the stables ... or both.  Yes, just like myself, he doesn't always concentrate where his feet are.

Today was no exception, but I got on and the 4 of us prceeded to walk up the road.  When the first car had passed I asked him to trot on, only to jam on his brakes ... he was lame.  Absolutely "hopping".  So I lept off, and we headed back to Toni's.  Toni came back with me, I felt his feet, and bent all of his leggs up - No problems, so I got back on and did some tight circles, and trotted him up and down - Very lame.

So, I put him back in his stable, to stand, while Toni took Junior up the road and back.

When she came back, she had a thorough look at him and he has the start of a condition called Wind Galls ... the tendons around his fetlocks are slightly swollen - and will thicken if not cared for.

She suggested we leave him today and she will keep an eye on him - as he actually had new neighbours move in yesterday ... so no doubt spent a lot of the day galloping around.  I took him back and Conrad was by the ajoining hedge.  DJ "trotted" over ... and the cantered up and down.  The canter step is easier for him.  This is one of the reasons he is not on pain killers, as he needs to know not to be a complete twit!!

So - I will keep you up-dated as to how he is.  I shall go and see him tomorrow, as I am in Bude for the day, and see how sore he feels.
