Italy 2018 - Day 4, Assissi

Closer to God
On the next day of our holiday we swapped hotels, moving to Rome. However we took a very indirect route so that we could visit the town of Assissi ... the home of St Francis of Asissi, and of St Clare (who founded the Poor Clares)

The Basilica of St Francis (where he is buried), has 2 levels

San Damiano - Just outside Asissi. This is where St Francis had his first vision, and where his followers congregated, and eventually where he died. As you can see, the original Church exists, but is now surrounded by a much larger building.

Oh that looks amazing. I'm now looking at my Italian roadtrip plans and wondering if we can fit Assisi in but I dont' think we have time. Shame because it looks incredible!

Belated reply, I know.

Assissi was not a city I had thought about visiting, but it is certainly amazing. The trouble is, as I found when I organised my own itinerary last year when I went to USA, there is always so much more to see than you have time (or money) for.

Hope your plans go well
