This Song Is Classified As A Nursery Rhyme!!

Child
This week at work one of the patients I saw had night terrors about choking on cats. I was telling my boss, so that if she needed further treatment she could be referred on if needed. However it reminded me of a song I know, that I learnt as a kid.

I asked my boss that, and although he comes from New Zealand and is younger than me, he knew it. However the rest of the group are Portugese and Filipino ... they didn't know it.

Anyway when I got home I had to hear it - aand thought I would share it!

There's an episode of Arthur about the nightmares a child has about this 'nursery' rhyme.

When you look at some of the standard fairy tales, they can be really terrifying.

Lots and lots of nursery rhymes are less than cuddly. "Rock-a-bye Baby" falls out of a tree. Jack falls down a hill and cracks his skull. "Humpty Dumpty" is irreparably broken. "The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe" had too many children to care for, so "she whipped them all soundly," and so it goes.

So true. When you look at some of the standard fairy tales, they can be really terrifying.

The original Brother's Grimm stories are just that.

I'd say it was a cautionary tale!

I used to hate that song until I heard Noel Paul Stookey's version (Paul from Peter Paul & Mary). It's so funny and ever since then I've liked it and even find myself singing it on occasion.

It's funny how some songs etc do grow on you ... for good or bad!
